Not gonna lie… I’m pretty disappointed, especially for the price. I’ve heard great things and was excited to try. Very basic. I was very disappointed that the cheese sticks and cheese pizza are the exact same thing with the exception of the sauce on the side or on top of the pizza. Case and point: they just baked a normal size cheese pizza, put sauce on half and cut the “cheese sticks” smaller (see pic). If I was to go again, I would try a different combo than all cheese.
Honestly… Red Light is better in DC for Detroit Style pizza locally. Wise Guys and Emmy Squared (chain or not it’s better) for Navy Yard.
Does have some outdoor picnic tables for those that want to get there food and eat there.
Disappointing first-time ordering from Side Door. Admittedly I used a delivery service, but my pizza arrived in under an hour so I don't think it was their fault.
First, my order was wrong. I ordered half pepperoni, half meatball, but only received pepperoni. Pizza was so soggy it was soaking through the box. And not with grease... It was literally wet. I've had Detroit style pizza before and have never once had this issue.
Also ordered wings. Side door should really consider poking steam holes in their containers like other restaurants so the food doesn't get mushy.
Huge bummer compared to the other great reviews here. I feel like I wasted money and can't say I'm willing to try them again.
Hands down one of the best pizza joints in the city! They continue to expand their offerings, the pizzas are always hot, cheesy, perfect crust, lots of toppings, ample sauce, and on time! The wings are amazing too! Oh, and while you wait you can drop into Scarlet Oak and get some of the best service in Navy Yard! Definitely recommend picking up in person so you can meet their friendly staff and ownership!
Do you see those photos? Do you see it. I mean the awesome soft pizza to a crust of perfection. The Louie and the pepperoni pizza. This is good fresh, warmed up or cold. It doesn't get any better than this. I love these places that are not franchised. Better pizza more love in the food. If you have not had it get it. They close at 10 PM. Good for late night snacks and such. This pizza is so good you going to want your own. No sharing.
Pizza was deep dish pleasing though it was missing a lot of the main ingredient on the pizza - the sausage. For $31.00 I expected the motherland it promised for Moes Pie but it failed. The cherry tomato drizzle was nothing more than cheese whiz which was quite disappointing because I don't like cheese whiz. Comparably to Ledos or Uno's when it comest authentically italian tasting pizza to include the sauce - it doesn't meet the mark. I will go to Uno's for quality and quantity. Side Door - beef up the toppings!!
Based on all the rave reviews, I wanted to see what the hype was all about. Since the mushroom was sold out, I ordered pepperoni. Not my favorite style of pizza, but it was pretty good. Lots of pepperoni, cheese and not too greasy, which I like. The slices are pretty dense so if you're enjoying solo, you'll have plenty of leftovers. The pickled sauce it came with was great and wish they'd give you more than just one. Overall, a good option if you're craving pizza, but it'll set you back $26.
Side Door is one of the best Detroit style pizzas I have had in a long time. Not only is the pizza delicious but they also have Great customer service. I will for sure be having this every trip I make to DC. Highly recommend you try this the next time you are in DC!!
The brussel sprouts were delicious, 5/5. The wings were flavorless & the texture wasn't good 1/5. The mushroom pizza seemed to be missing the figs; it wasn't good and it wasn't bad 3/5. Overall, 2.5/5; I wouldn't go back except for the sprouts, especially considering how expensive it was!
